Christmas at Saint Paul’s 2024
Join us for Christmas!
CHRISTMAS EVE, TUESDAY, DECEMBER 24, 4:00 p.m. At the 4:00 p.m. Mass we bless the Crèche, and the children carry the figurines to Bethlehem and put them in the nativity scene. All hymns are Christmas carols sung by the congregation. God put the wiggle in children, so there are always surprises, but the energy is joyful throughout. We use Rite II (contemporary English) at this Mass. We respect the discretion and authority of parents in setting standards of decorum for their children. Nursing mothers who wish to remain in church are welcome.
CHRISTMAS EVE, TUESDAY, DECEMBER 24, 7:00 p.m. The 7:00 p.m. Mass (the “Shepherds’ Mass”) began as Midnight Mass (midnight comes earlier every year!). We are blessed with a good choir, and in addition to hymns (carols) we have service music and the choir offers some more elaborate anthems. This more traditional Mass uses Rite I (traditional language). It features a candlelight singing of Silent Night after Communion, and proclamation of the Last Gospel. All are welcome (children included).
CHRISTMAS DAY, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 25, 9:00 a.m. On Christmas Day the 9:00 a.m. Mass is recited (though, depending on who’s there, we might feel inspired to offer a spontaneous O Come, All Ye Faithful or Joy to the World on the spur of the moment). This Mass is not crowded, but the atmosphere has a quiet, meditative joy to it. Also celebrated using Rite I (traditional language).
We offer gluten-free hosts at all Masses.
